Who is a Business Analyst? 

Business analysis is a disciplined, structured, and formal approach to analyzing a business process, identifying improvements, and implementing changes so that the business can better achieve its goals. It is based on facts, figures, and observations.

A business analyst is a person who helps businesses analyze their processes, products, services, and systems to improve current processes and make profitable decisions through insights and data analysis. A business analyst also helps organizations document business processes by assessing the business model and its integration with technology.

What is the job description of a business analyst? 

  • A Business Analyst uses data to identify problems and solutions, thereby creating step-by-step actionable steps for the future of the organization. He also conducts a business model analysis to evaluate the organization’s policies and structure to suggest change and improvement. 

  • Builds business cases with strategies from financial analyses and reports on risks and returns.

  •  Streamlines and improves internal and external reporting. He also forecasts and budgets the finances of the organization in line with key performance indicators.

  • Ensures quality control by evaluating and improving business output which includes products, services, and IT structure of the organization.

  • Identifying and prioritizing the organization's functional and technical needs and requirements

  • Using SQL and Excel to analyze large data sets, as well as compiling charts, tables, and other elements of data visualization 

  • Understanding business strategies, goals, and requirements, and creating financial models to support business decisions

  • Planning enterprise architecture (the structure of a business)

  • Forecasting, budgeting, and performing both variance analysis and financial analysis

What skills are required to be a business analyst? 

  • Expertise in data research

  • Mathematical mindset and expert analytic capabilities

  • The ability to investigate and identify critical data

  • Proven SAP skills

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills

  • SQL proficiency

  • Project management experience

  • Strong communication skills for reporting to stakeholders
