What is network support?

Network Support has to do with everything that keeps an organization’s computer network running, productive, and up-to-date. It is a service that helps to maintain and update a computer network. Anyone working as a network support specialist may work on any piece of a network, from the individual devices to the system itself.

Network support is also about supporting the people who use the equipment. They handle regular maintenance tasks, testing, and troubleshooting to increase the functionality and productivity of a computer network.

Operating systems need to be updated regularly and that is one of the services provided in network support. This in turn significantly improves the performance, security, and efficiency of the device.

  4. Troubleshooting: Network troubleshooting is the act of discovering and correcting problems with connectivity, performance, security, and other aspects of networks. It takes a set of procedures, practices, and tools to process numerous requests by a complex mix of users and dispersed network assets and infrastructure.

  5. Remote Network Monitoring: Remote network monitoring refers to the process of monitoring and managing a computer network from a remote location. It involves the use of specialized software tools and technologies to collect and analyze network data, performance metrics, and security events without physically being present at the network's location.

What is Tech support?

Technical support (tech support) refers to a range of services companies provide to their customers for products such as software, mobile phones, printers, and other electronic, mechanical or electromechanical products. Technical support services usually provide users with help in solving some common problems rather than providing training on how to use the product.

Technical support is usually delivered over the telephone, via email, over chat (IM) or using special software or software extensions that the user can employ to directly contact tech support. Technical support representatives are usually very familiar with the ins and outs of the products for which they provide support.

  4. User Account Management: User Account Management describes the ability for administrators to manage (to create, remove, update and maintain) user access to various IT resources.

Differences between network and tech support

  • Tech support involves helping clients with the internet or hard drive issues of a computer or system. Network support involves designing, building and maintaining the network system for a company.

  • Network support specialists work with businesses or organizations, creating networks for individual use, while technical support specialists work one-on-one with customers to help diagnose and solve problems with their computer use.

  • Network support jobs may require a degree in computer science. Tech support jobs may not necessarily require someone with a degree in computer science, but someone with the needed skills and knowledge.
